Knuckle joint opens or closes ?

Hi Val and everyone,

    You will find the file attachment.  I create a story of the plane.  I wrote #1 (see file attachment).  I mean that the knuckle joint opens.  But, Deaf kids didn't agree with a Deaf teacher.  They believed that they showed her #2 (see file attachment) because this symbol means  "opened knuckle joint".

    Val or everyone,  I would like to know what do you choose #1 or # 2?
