SignWriting List
June 10, 2008

Hello Brian and Adam!
Thanks to you both for your discussion, which is really important...

Adam is correct, that at this time, in the current version of
SignPuddle, we can only Search by Symbols on individual signs in a
dictionary, but not on SignText documents yet. We hope someday to have
an added feature that will make it possible to Search documents as
well as dictionaries, but the software is "not there yet"...

The Cat in the Hat is a SignText document written in the ASL
Literature Puddle by Cherie Wren. In the ASL Literature Puddle, the
only "individual signs" are the titles to the documents, and so the
Literature Puddle is not the place to do the searching for individual
signs...

You could search for individual signs, is in the ASL Dictionary
puddle...and find a few of them possibly...but you are right that
those exact signs, exactly the way Cherie Wren signed them and wrote
them, have not been entered into the Dictionary as individual signs
yet...

But if you are going to do searches, be sure to do them in the ASL
Dictionary puddle, where there are more individual signs located...you
will have a little more luck!

I suppose we could create a separate web page that has the exact
English-gloss of the ASL signs in Cat in the Hat for now...Would you
like us to do that?

Val ;-)
