Hi,

this is very interesting.
Your dictionnnary is a software or a document?
Can you send me a one page sample?

I would like working with you and your collegue on your dictionary. We will see how I can be useful.
Maybe a picture dictionary is not necessary because yours is easy to search.

Is this dictionary available and used in Montreal?

Thank you very much.

Hi Val, André L. and everyone, André L., I can be a reviewer of the SW LSQ picture dictionary. But if you develop the bilingual (SW LSQ-French) dictionary based on the alphabetical order like in English or in French dictionaries (a, b, c, d, e,…), I don't think that the Deaf students will use it because they don't know enough French words and won't be able to look them up in the bilingual dictionary (for example, LSQ photos and French dictionary (Dewar, Roy and Bourcier) and LSQ photos, pictures and French dictionary (RESO). I believe that a paper or PDF SW LSQ dictionary does not exist on the SW web. However, a Deaf teacher and I are developing a SW LSQ and French dictionary that is not based on the traditional bilingual dictionaries or on the alphabetical order. Deaf students can look up (SW) words directly in our SW LSQ dictionary. For example, a Deaf student looks up the sign for ‘CHAT’ (CAT) because he knows the word ‘CHAT’ in his first language (i.e. the LSQ) but he does not know the French word for ‘chat’ (cat). He looks it up in our dictionary, looks for handshape 9 based on numeral orders (1-10) like SignPuddle. For example, the group 9 includes F, G, L, Q, 9, open-9… (ASL manual alphabet). He finds it. There are four different locations: 1) from the top of the head to the neck (with contact symbols), 2) from the shoulder to the leg (with contact symbols), 3) from the upper arm to the hand (with contact symbols), and 4) neutral space from higher to lower (without contact symbols). He finds the head with a brush symbol in group 9. Finally, he finds a SW LSQ for ‘CHAT’ (CAT) and looks at the French word for ‘chat’ (cat). Some Deaf students often use our SW LSQ-French dictionary at the school. We are still working to add new signs in our dictionary. André L., a Deaf teacher will meet you soon. She will show you our dictionary. You will learn how to look up words directly in the SW LSQ without using the alphabetical order from French in our dictionary. Maybe, we could work with you to improving our dictionary. I inform you that a Deaf teacher and I do not have a good computer. I think that you have a better computer. But I may be wrong!!! Best regards, André

Hello André!Maybe André Thibeault and his wife, Andree, who teaches SignWriting to Deaf children in Quebec, can be the reviewers of LSQ Picture Dictionary? If they have time of course (Hi André and Andree - how are you both? do you have time to help? or do you know of others who have time? ;-)
Perhaps others here on the SignWriting List who know LSQ will want to help too…
When André and his family visited me on New Year’s Day 2013, I was really amazed and impressed with their dedication to writing LSQ and teaching it to Deaf children. André has written so many documents in LSQ now in SignPuddle Online…. I will never forget the one showing the airplane taking off and landing - that one is a classic!
Meanwhile, there are close to 4500 LSQ signs in SignPuddle Online right now:
LSQ Dictionary in SignPuddlehttp://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/searchword.php?ui=4&sgn=47&sTrm=*
You can try to find some of the signs needed already written, and when one is not there you can ask others and write it in SignPuddle and accomplish the task sign by sign - that is certainly the way I would start -
Here is an example - the sign for TEMPERATURE, in the ASL dictionary can be replaced by the LSQ sign…see attached -

The ASL illustrated dictionary you developped contains approximately 600 words. I am conviced that it can be adapted to LSQ within a few week-ends.

The only need would be a skilled reviewer to ensure the accuracy of the signs.

Do you know if a paper or pdf LSQ dictionary already exists?

thank you very much for this offer.

We will discuss this further (soon).

Hello Elen Rose, and André!Thank you for these messages. As you can see below, I translated Elen’s message into English… Thank you for mentioning that we have many fun illustrations ready for use by anyone on our web sites - That is true. Materials posted on my web sites are under the Creative Commons license, which states you are free to use the materials, while giving full credit to everyone involved.
You are welcome to use the illustrations in the books on this web page:
SignWriting Dictionary Libraryhttp://signbank.org/dictionaries/
If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, you will see the Creative Commons License information - So no worries. We would love to have adaptations of the dictionaries on the above web page into other sign languages.
Number 2 on the above web page is this one:
ASL Picture Dictionary in SignWritinghttp://www.signwriting.org/archive/docs6/sw0570-US-ASLPictureDictionary2006.pdf
It has many charming illustrations and is already in PDF format.
Perhaps you can use that document to create a LIBRAS version, by replacing the ASL-SignWriting with LIBRAS-SignWriting, and replace the English words with Portuguese words. If it is in the same format, it will be easy for me to post it in the SignWriting Dictionary Library.
This will be a blessing because right now the Library only has ASL dictionaries and it was always my intention to post dictionaries in many sign languages...
If anyone would like to adapt it to other sign languages, please do!
Val ;-)

Eu posso entender a idéia geral.

Há 11 documentos do Word para este projeto. Você pode ver e copiar aqui:

Há um documento no qual você pode escrever seus comentários aqui está:

Aguardo seus comentários.

Atenção: Esta é uma versão preliminar. Aguardo comentários de professores. As imagens são copiadas da internet. Eu não tenho os direitos de transmissão. Estou em contato com artistas surdos para substituí-los.

Até logo.
