Hello SignWriting List Members, and Professor Rubens Almeida from Brazil:

Thank you for this question about the SignWriting symbols for writing Torso & Body Movement in the ISWA 2010 (International SignWriting Alphabet 2010 that is in Unicode).

You are correct. The symbols are there with little explanation and that is why I am suggesting that we start a collaboration of instruction online that will teach in both spoken and sign languages. We need more detailed instruction that is free to everyone online. Most of these symbols are used when writing sign language storytelling and poetry and for mime and gesture as well. There are some beautiful written sign language literature documents that use all these symbols, but not everyone realizes this and so I look forward to working with all of you on this new project.

For right now, let me explain in my native language, English. Where are these symbols?

But an easier way to access and write with these symbols, is to go to SignMaker 2017 or open SignMaker inside SignPuddle Online.

I am used to writing with SignPuddle Online, so I will open the ASL Dictionary to start to create a new sign, that uses Torso or Body symbols. I go to:

I click on the SignMaker icon on the left of the screen and the Symbol Palette appears. Then click on the Shoulder Line, and a sub-group of Torso symbols appear. Click again to get other sub groups of symbols.
