A websearch turned up an ASL dictionary site using classifiers with a
"CL:" prefix.<br>

I took a look at my ABC book ("A Basic Course in American Sign
Language") and it also prefixes classifiers with "CL:"<br>

<pre wrap="">CL_ is pretty standard for glossing classifiers. I heard rumors of a
dictionary that included classifiers, but I don't know which.... If we add
them, is there somewhere we could link to a little grammar explanation of
how to use them, to distinguish them from regular vocabulary items? Or do
we just hope that people realize that you can't learn a whole language from
a dictionary? :)

I am curious...Are there other ASL dictionaries that have classifiers
in them? Do they use the CL_?....Is there a standard way to enter them
into other ASL dictionaries?...We could use what people are used to
seeing....Val ;-)

something short and less easy to misspell or forget.
Maybe CL_BED or CL_THIN. I wonder if we can use the definition space
to put other words that represent that classifer (flat surface, etc.)
and maybe the search can include those somehow when using English to
search. But probably if you do a search with CL_ then all the
classifiers should show up and then you can look for something
similar.

<pre wrap="">I like the idea of putting classifiers in. For ease of use, it might
be better to put (classifier) first, though your dictionary will
seach either way.
(classifier) bed or flat surface
(classifier) vehicle that can be parked
(classifier) small thin object
(classifier) area
These are just off the top of my head.

So perhaps, if you need to add classifiers to the ASL SignPuddle on
the
web, you could, Nancy...even th! ough it is a public dictionary...it
is
free. it is just a matter of deciding how to add those classifiers to
the ASL dictionary...
So I am asking other SignPuddle users now...If Nancy adds a classifier
to the ASL SignPuddle, and adds a parenthesis saying it is a
classifier, would that be ok?...like this:
bed or flat surface (classifier)....
or something like that...
How would you all suggest we tag classifiers in a SignPuddle
dictionary
entry?
