Hi All,

There are 2 options.

First, we could create a new ASL-French puddle. We could start it
based on the ASL-English puddle.

Second, give this page a try. It's a google translation using the
French UI. You can't do any custom searching. But when you search for
"*", it translates most of the terms.
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.signbank.org%2FSignPuddle1.5%2Fsearchword.php%3Fui%3D4%26sgn%3D4%26search%3D%252A%26type%3Dany&langpair=en%7Cfr&hl=EN&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

Or the Tiny URL version:
Perhaps Steve could layer in a translation between input and search so
that if a french word was input, it could translate to english then
input the english gloss in the ASL puddle.

The only other solution is one that I have done in the
Brazilian
sign puddle. In all the definitions, so far, some English glosses have
also been included, so that there is English translation of Libras
possible as well as Portuguese translation. Because of grammatical
differences and conjugations of verbs and declensions of nouns, it will
always be a challange for a glossing program to capture all translation
needs.

right, Anne. I was only able to use it for a dictionary entry after I
used english to get the ASL. Pretty useless for what your friend
needs. Sorry.

Another way may be to use one of the online translators to translate
from French to English first, then use the English in the the ASL
translator. However, if you then try to translate the results back to
French, it will just give you a blank page ...
If your friend is using Firefox, you can download an extension called
FoxLingo. It can be set to automatically translate webpages when they
load and has support for 41 languages.
