That process is known to be done for cryprographic purposes! :-) A good example: when Signed Polish was developed in Poland, about 90% signs  were borrowed from PJM, the rest was "invented". Now, nearly 30 years later,  some Deafies say that there are only 20% signs shared by both PJM and Signed  Polish. Teachers report that Deaf students like to have some signs that are  unintelligible (ununderstandable) to the teachers. Once the teachers decode  the signs, the students immediately "invent" new ones and abandon to use the  old ones.
