Hi Maria,
What was your starting point to write the dissertations? LESHO has
similarities with ASL and also other Central americal sign languages
like LESCO(LEguaje de Señas COstaricense) from Costa Rica.
Are you dissertations available in English?

Hi Jonathan-
Yes! it's what I'm doing right now for Maltese Sign Language. We have no
published works on the grammatical rules of LSM (only two dissertations
-that I carried out - and of course I couldn't describe the whole
grammatical system).

In fact the reason why it would be good to have BSL grammatical rules in
signwriting, is that for BSL they have many published works on
grammatical rules (e.g Sutton-Spence and Bencie Woll'The Linguistics of
BSL' just to mention one) - BUT not in signwriting - Having BSL rules in
signwriting would be of great use to us, since the two sign languages are
so close - having the same writing system i.e. signwriting, would make
cross-linguistic study so much easier!

I am enjoying your posts very much. I feel the need to start
investigating more about Honduran Sign Language (LESHO) grammar. I
asked at the Deaf association and it seems that nobody has studied LESHO
grammar yet. When we get to writing full articles in LESHO it will be
important include the gramatical non-manual markers in the writing too.
Have any of you had any experience analyzing a sign language whose
grammatical rules haven't been published yet?

"create". The tense is carried by the situation.

Subject: [sw-l] question for the way to express 'made'

Dear Adam and Valerie;

I'm implementing the system now. While I have a question:

why can't we use an ASL gesture to express the meaning of 'made'
on the first page of the 'Frosty the Snow Man', other than using
the FingerSpellings to sign these four letters respectively?

I suppose the reason is because the word 'made' is a past tense,
and there is no ASL for it.

The reason I'm asking is my intention is to implement the first
page as a 4-by-4 output pattern, which are 16 sign-boxes in total
includes those punctuations. So I'm looking for a way to squeeze
the word 'made' into a box.

  Thanks
Gan
