I started it in 1996. And I will continue to offer the SignWriting List as long as I live, and I plan to live another 30 years! And I hope after that others will keep it alive. It is the one place where you have direct access to me and to other experts who are in the center of the dissemination of SignWriting around the world.</div><div><br></div><div>We have historic Archives for all of the messages since 1998, and those Archives serve as information for research projects:</div><div><br></div><div><div>SignWriting List Archives</div><div><a href="http://www.signwriting.org/forums/swlist/">http://www.signwriting.org/forums/swlist/</a></div></div><div><br></div><div>Facebook is good to a certain degree, but a little superficial. I have tried it for List messages and found that within a very short time, others joined who did not care about SignWriting but chose to talk about other things, and the management of it for me, at least, was overwhelming… I do visit our Facebook pages occasionally…and you are welcome to do that too:</div><div><br></div><div>SignWriting on Facebook</div><div><div style="color: rgb(23, 146, 80); font-size: 12px; margin: 0px; "><u><a href="http://facebook.com/SignWriting">http://facebook.com/SignWriting</a></u></div></div><div><br></div><div>Meanwhile, the whole purpose of the SignWriting List is to provide a general forum for a multitude of SignWriting-related topics…software development for SignWriting, linguistic and language issues like you are discussing now are most welcome, and of course information about projects and requests for technical support - all those are perfectly good topics and very interesting for many of our 200 List members…</div><div><br></div><div>So how do you throw out the messages you are not interested in? One way is to ignore the ones you don't care about…and truly trash them...</div><div><br></div><div>But there is also another way. You can change your settings to the SignWriting List any time. To read the messages, you will have to enter the List Archives to see what people are talking about, and then if you want to get involved, you can again, by answering from the Archives or changing your settings back to receiving mail again -</div><div><br></div><div>Just some thoughts…</div><div><br></div><div>To access the Archives, go to:</div><div><br></div><div>SignWriting List Archives</div><div><a href="http://www.signwriting.org/forums/swlist/">http://www.signwriting.org/forums/swlist/</a></div><div><br></div><div>So you are most welcome to discuss language and all of your projects - It is good for us to be in touch with each other -</div><div><br></div><div>There is no problem posting anything related to SignWriting, and all languages are welcome...</div><div><br></div><div>Val ;-)</div><div><br></div><div>---------</div><div><br></div><div><br><div><div>On Sep 5, 2013, at 9:14 AM, Michael Utterback <<a href="mailto:mautterback@gmail.com">mautterback@gmail.com</a>> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><div dir="ltr">Hello all!<div>I have a suggestion, Not sure if you have discussed this in the past but i think it may be better to have some type of forum for all of this discussion instead of everyone getting emails because like a previous subscriber said it is flooding our inboxes. Because they are "iconic" they are contextual, meaning "not a dictionary entry" but simply a configuration that is being used in a particular sense, like the "three" hand being used for "vehicles" in several signs. I looked up "vehicle" and found these three signs that are used in that context. ABC poems use that concept all the time. SignWriting is based on writing what you see, NOT the meaning. <br>

<div>Thank you for trying…big smile too ;-))</div>

<div>Let us take it one step at a time to see what happens…I am sure we can figure it out...</div>

<div>You went to:</div>
<div><a href="http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/index.php?ui=1&sgn=4" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/index.php?ui=1&sgn=4</a></div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Looking at the attached diagram, you succeeded to do Number 1 and 2 and 3, but then nothing happened? When you scrolled down you did not see any choices of signs?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>There is a chance that the signs you tried to translate were not in the ASL Dictionary…what words did you try to translate?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>For right now, lets try the word HELLO - do not try other words - let us first see if you can get it to work for the word HELLO...</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Then we can start doing your real translation together…</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Write again to tell me if you can translate the word HELLO…. and do what is in the diagram…</div>
