Congratulations, Honza, and to all of your team in the Czech Republic, and also I do remember that you and your team have been working on this dicitonary for many years… It looks great and thank you for providing the world with this resource.

I like the format and it is working for me. I know the others have provided feedback about their experiences, and that is good that you asked. For me, when I go to:

https://www.dictio.info/

for the first time, on Chrome, on my iMac desktop computer, I get the English user interface automatically. So it is quite easy for me to use the dictionary immediately. I see there are other language choices in the top right corner, but in my case I do not need to change languages.

And I love the choices of languages in the dictionary itself too - for example, here is a screen capture of one of the signs that I found for CZJ (Czech Sign Language):

On Oct 4, 2022, at 2:22 AM, Honza Fikejs <honza.fikejs@gmail.com> wrote:

Hello Steve, Val and the list!

I am very glad, you have written about the dictionary, we have been working on for almost 20 years now on Masaryk University (Brno, Czechia)!
It contains several spoken and several sign languages that are important for people living in central europe.
I believe I have already shared some details about this project in the past, but this way of sharing makes me more happy.

The reason why we use SignWriting besides videos is that once you know a basics of SignWriting, you don't have to play each video to get an overview of the content.

I will be glad if you have any feedback about the site or content.
Anyway if you open the site http://dictio.info for the first time, do you get the english interface or not?
The site should set the interface language automatically depending on your location.

Honza
_____________________

On Tue, Sep 27, 2022 at 6:22 PM Valerie Sutton <sutton@signwriting.org> wrote:
SignWriting List
September 27, 2022

Hi Steve -
I am so glad you re-explained this to me and everyone here on the SignWriting List. Thank you for this development.

So for those who are creating your own sites and programs, Steve has developed tools for you to use that make it faster and also more standardized around the world… if I understand it correctly, this new dictionary site is using:

the Sutton SignWriting packages
which help people develop new applications for SignWriting.

Go to:
https://www.sutton-signwriting.io/#production

Steve explains below its benefits -

So glad programmers and designers have found your new work, Steve!

Val ;-)

------------

On Sep 27, 2022, at 8:47 AM, Stephen Slevinski <slevin@SIGNPUDDLE.NET> wrote:

Hi Val,

The dictionary is beautiful, I agree. I was looking a little deeper into the site and I was happy to see that they are using the @sutton-signwriting/font-db package.
* https://sign.dictio.info

The major benefit of using this package is that they can add new SignWriting using text rather than having to create and upload new images. In a practical sense, the sign I linked in my original message requires 0.086 KB of text opposed to an 8 KB image. The images are generated as needed, so any sign that can be written with Formal SignWriting in ASCII (FSW) is possible.

I'm glad the new Sutton SignWriting packages are helping people develop new applications for SignWriting.
* https://www.sutton-signwriting.io/#production

Very cool!
-Steve

_________

On 9/27/22 10:09 AM, Valerie Sutton wrote:

SignWriting List
September 27, 2022

Hi Steve and everyone!

This is a beautiful new dictionary using video and SignWriting to write the videos, and I believe this is from Masaryk University, which is in the Czech Republic… Thank you to everyone invovled.
