Sorry that message abut Jamin’s book was so short, I sent it while on the road from my phone.

Congratulations to Jamin for getting a revision of his PhD thesis into the Mouton series! It is an interesting look at identifying language varieties and their relationships. It also points to how under-identified the many languages of China are, as he found 24 mutually-unintelligible languages within one group of people (the Phula), who are considered in China to be a branch of the large group called Yi, and so have the Yi variety of Liangshan as their officially recognised language (China only officially recognizes one language per official ethnic group (minzu)).
