I would like to bring to your attention the following job announcement.

The Center for East Asian Linguistics (CRLAO) of the French National Research Center (CNRS) invites applications for one postdoctoral position. The position is a full-time academic appointment to begin in March 2024 for a maximum period of 34 months. 

The position is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) as part of the research project "Phoneme Quality, Voice Quality, and Tone: Origins of the Recently Uncovered Contrasts in Languages of Western Sichuan, China" (2024-2027), coordinated by Katia Chirkova. This collaborative project between the CRLAO and the Laboratory of Phonetics and Phonology of the CNRS (LPP, lpp.in2p3.fr <http://lpp.in2p3.fr/>) is to explore and empirically test recently uncovered contrasts involving sounds of the lower vocal tract in Qiangic and Tibetic languages (Sino-Tibetan) of Western Sichuan, China. 

The postdoctoral scholar to join the research team of the project will participate :

1. in fieldwork on a number of varieties of the Qiang language in China
2. in the analysis of the phonetic and phonological organization of the surveyed varieties
3. in research work on various aspects of the collected data, resulting in publications in one or more of the following fields: phonological typology, historical and comparative linguistics, linguistic contact, areal linguistics, and Sino-Tibetan linguistics
4. in the management of the collected data, their dissemination and archiving
5. in the organization of scientific meetings and events planned within the framework of the project (study days, symposia, etc.)
6. in the valorization of the research activities of the project, communicating research results through social media (blogs, podcasts, video)

Skills

- PhD in linguistics (obtained between March 1, 2017 and March 1, 2024), preferably in the field of Sino-Tibetan linguistics
- Fieldwork experience, with preference to candidates with fieldwork experience in Southwest China (Western Sichuan)
- Thorough knowledge of the field covered by the project
- A good command of Chinese and English; knowledge of Tibetan and Qiang would be a plus
- Mastery of the tools needed for linguistic fieldwork, data analysis and management
- Flexibility and initiative
- Independent and organized work style
- Confirmed ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.
