              Tenure-Track Position in Finnish Studies

The Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington
invites
applications for a tenure-track appointment in Finnish studies at the
Assistant
Professor level beginning Autumn Quarter, 2001.  The successful applicant
will
enhance and extend our current offerings in Finnish language, literature,
and culture,
be highly qualified for independent research and publishing, and possess
native or
near-native proficiency in Finnish.  A specialization or secondary emphasis
in such
areas as film, art history, or folklore is desirable.  Ph.D. preferred.
Applicants who
have completed their Ph.D. qualifying exams will be considered.  The
Department of
Scandinavian Studies offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the
Scandinavian/Nordic languages, literatures, and area studies, with a broad
range of
course offerings, including history, folklore, cinema, politics and
society.  In addition,
the Department serves as the institutional home of the Baltic Studies
program at the
University of Washington.  Send a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
