Dear Colleague,

You are kindly invited to attend the conference on

"Cultural innovation and information retrieval: The digitization and
automated content exploration of Finno-Ugric cultural heritage"

organized by the National Széchényi Library and the National Branch of the
Finno-Ugric World Congress in Budapest, Hungary on

September 14, 2001 (Friday),
from 10.00 to 16.30,
in the ceremonial hall of the National Széchényi Library.
Participation is free of charge.

The conference is seeking ways to save the cultural heritage of Finno-Ugric
peoples for the present and the future, in the framework of the emerging
information society. Its goal is to assess the degree of, and generate
further cooperation between researchers in the humanities and information
technology in this specific field. Invited lecturers from Hungary, Finland
and Estonia will focus on research and development results, with ample
opportunity to make comments and initiate discussion. The working language
of the conference will be Hungarian, with no English translation provided,
but English as a second working language in an academic meeting is taken for
granted. The abstracts of the papers will be published for the event in
Hungarian and English.
