Betreff: [ural] New book

Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to announce to you the publication of my book, From Fugitive
Peasants to Diaspora: The Eastern Mari in Tsarist and Federal Russia. It
came out recently as number 328 in the Humaniora series of the Finnish
Academy of Science and Letters (Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia).

The Eastern Mari are descendants of migrants who began leaving their
ancestral home in the Middle Volga in the sixteenth century for more
easterly destinations on the interface between the Orthodox and
Turkic-Muslim cultural worlds. In addition to exploring their settlement
process, my study focuses on the beginning and the end of the twentieth
century-two periods of revival and incipient diasporic discourse between the
Eastern Mari and their ethnic kinsfolk in the putative homeland republic.

The contents page is available at:
<http://www.rusin.fi/eastmari/eng/contents2003.html>. The volume is
softbound with 473 pages and priced at 30 euros (plus handling and postage).
If you wish to purchase the book, please address your order to:
Tiedekirja-bookstore, Kirkkokatu 14, FIN-00170 Helsinki, Finland. Telephone

Sincerely,

Seppo Lallukka
