Dear All,

the corpus server of the Research Centre for the Languages of Finland has
recently informed members of Finnish linguistic lists about two new online
resources:

Map of Finnish toponyms: http://kaino.kotus.fi/nikar/index.php . The user
interface, optimized for Firefox, can be used to draw maps showing the
distribution of certain place names or their elements in the pre-WWII
Finnish-language area.

Digital database of the audio collections ( http://kaino.kotus.fi/naark/ ),
containing mainly Finnish dialect interviews but also some material in other
Finno-Ugric languages. The material itself can only be used on location or
ordered by post (on CD as mp3 file) -- but in the future, the mp3 files
might be directly available online (as already in the Estonian dialect
phonotheque: http://www.eki.ee/murded/fonoteek/ ).

So far, the user interfaces for these valuable resources seem to be in
Finnish only. Please correct me if I'm wrong -- and please feel free to
announce similar resources of potential interest!

Best
JL
