Dear All,

as already announced, for instance, on the UGRIMUGRI list (with a newslink:
http://www.jjew.ru/index.php?cnt=10971 ) and already anticipated with great
sorrow by many colleagues who knew about the fatal illness he was bravely
fighting, our esteemed colleague Eugen Helimski passed away yesterday in
Hamburg.

Before his death, he wrote the following announcement with the explicit wish
that it be forwarded to URA-LIST and certain other colleagues -- I just
received a scanned version from colleagues in Hamburg and hope I haven't
made any mistakes in interpreting his handwriting:

***

A dictionary of Taz Selkup (with Russian translations) is basically ready,
though its compiler Eugene Helimski continued working at supplementing and
editing this dictionary till the last days of his life. The latest version
of this document can be found on the Internet (as a MS Word document) at
http://www.helimski.com/Taz%20Selkup%20Dictionary . The website
www.helimski.com also contains a big systematized collection of papers by
Helimski (books, articles, reviews, abstracts, handouts in form of .doc,
.rtf, .pdf and scanned .jpg files).

***

With warmest condolences to all colleagues, friends and pupils who now miss
this uniquely and truly gifted Uralist, a conscientious worker on the field
of linguistics practically to the last breath,

JL
