For 2009, the following events and anniversaries:
- 80th birthday of the Hungarian ethnomusicologist László Vikár
- 200th anniversary of Finland's separation from Sweden and the birth of
Finland's autonomy
- 200 years from the death of the German scholar A. L. Schlözer, one of
those who prepared the way for early comparative Finno-Ugristics
- 200 years from the birth of the Hungarian Fennophile István Fábián
- 150 years from the birth of the Hungarian ethnographer and translator Béla
Vikár
- 100 years from the birth of the Hungarian poet and translator Géza Képes
- 175 years from the birth of Aleksis Kivi, Finland's national poet
- 125 years from the death of Elias Lönnrot, compiler of Finland's national
epic Kalevala
- 2-5 June: international Kalevala conference in Petrozavodsk (Contact:

- 23-27 September: All-Russian Finno-Ugrists' Conference in Khanty-Mansiisk

For 2010:
- 375th anniversary of the ELTE university, Budapest
- 200 years from the birth of Pál Hunfalvy, one of the founding fathers of
Hungarian Finno-Ugric studies
- 150 years from the birth of Bernát Munkácsi, Hungarian Finno-Ugrist
- 9-14 August: 11th International Congress of Finno-Ugric Studies in
Piliscsaba ( http://fu11.btk.ppke.hu/ )
- 11th Finno-Ugric Writers' Congress in Finland
