2nd Call for Abstracts


VII ETMU-DAYS

NEGOTIATING THE LOCAL AND GLOBAL: VALUES, CITIZENSHIP AND EDUCATION

October 21-22, 2010
University Oulu
Oulu, Finland

Please, notice the deadline for abstracts 1.9.2010.


The keynote speakers at the conference are: Dr. Solveig Bergman
(Nordic Gender Institute, Oslo), Professor Maurice Crul (University of
Amsterdam), Member of Finnish Parliament Pekka Haavisto, Professor
Peter Kivisto (Augustana College), Professor Anssi Paasi (University
of Oulu), and Professor Rauni Räsänen (University of Oulu).

The theme of the seventh annual ETMU Days, 'Negotiating the local and
global: values, citizenship and education' can be approached from
many angles and therefore several workshops will be held at the
conference.

Researchers, research groups, students, organizations and other
stakeholders of the field may suggest papers for the workshops by
submitting an abstract of an intended paper.

The suggested workshops are:

1. Reflections on multiculturalism in the classroom
2. Intercultural education and learning
3. Immigration, citizenship and education for global responsibility
4. Early childhood education in multicultural contexts
5. Immigration, ethnic relations and changing educational policies
6. Indigenous knowledge and education
7. The Saami in a multicultural world
8. Minority cultures and languages
9. Mobile families and traditions
10. The meaning of place in a mobile world
11. Racism
12. Negotiating between universal and cultural values
13. Immigration, ethnicity and religion
14. Alueellinen kulttuurienvälisyys (in Finnish)
15. Multi-professional co-operation in promoting integration
16. An integrated and cohesive society in the era of increasing
diversity - in search of elements of integration
17. Negotiating the virtual - gender, ethnicity and empowerment
18. Global work
19. Sustainable development and international tourism: ethnicity,
representations and local economies in tourism.

The length of the abstracts is ca. 200 words and the proposals are to
be sent directly to the chair persons of the chosen workshop. Contact
details are listed at ETMU webpage (see address above). The abstract
should include the name of the participant, contact information,
organization/affiliation and the name of the chosen workshop. The
organizers reserve the right to redirect abstracts to another workshop
if necessary. The abstracts should also specify the language to be
used (English, Finnish or other) and they are to be submitted by 1st
September 2010.


Finnish Journal of Ethnicity and Migration (FJEM) welcomes the
participants of the ETMU Days to submit papers presented at the

ARVOT, KANSALAISUUS JA KASVATUS GLOBAALISSA MURROKSESSA
21.-22.10.2010

Konferenssin pääpuhujat ovat: Johtaja Solveig Bergman (Nordic Gender
Institute, Oslo), Professori Maurice Crul (University of Amsterdam),
Kansanedustaja Pekka Haavisto, Professori Peter Kivisto (Augustana
College), Professori Anssi Paasi (Oulun yliopisto) ja Professori Rauni
Räsänen (Oulun yliopisto).

Seitsemänsien ETMU-päivien teemaa 'Arvot, kansalaisuus ja kasvatus
globaalissa murroksessa' voidaan lähestyä monesta näkökulmasta.
Aihepiiriä käsitelläänkin konferenssin aikana useissa työryhmissä.

Tutkijoilta, tutkijaryhmiltä, opiskelijoilta ja alan toimijoilta
pyydetään esitelmäehdotuksia työryhmiin, joista löytyy tarkempaa
tietoa ETMU-päivien sivuilta:

Tarkemmat tiedot työryhmistä (mukaan lukien työryhmissä käytettävät
kielet) ovat nähtävissä nettisivuilla.

Toivottava abstraktin pituus on noin 200 sanaa. Abstraktit pyydetään
lähettämään suoraan valitun työryhmän koordinaattorille. Yhteystiedot
löytyvät yllä mainitusta www-osoitteesta.
Abstraktista tulee ilmetä  tekijän nimi, yhteystiedot, taustataho,
esityksen kieli sekä valitun työryhmän nimi. Konferenssin järjestäjät
pidättävät itsellään oikeuden siirtää esityksiä työryhmien välillä,
mikäli tarpeellista. Ehdotukset tulee lähettää työryhmän
koordinaattoreille 1.9.2010 mennessä.
