AFinLA Autumn Symposium
11–12 November 2011, University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu Campus “Multilingualism in Everyday Contexts”
The First Circular and Call for Papers

The annual Autumn Symposium of the Finnish Association of Applied Linguistics (AFinLA) will be held at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu on 11–12 November 2011. The theme of the symposium is “Multilingualism in Everyday Contexts”. We invite proposals for papers, posters or workshops related to the theme as well as other areas of applied linguistics.

The symposium is particularly directed at applied linguists, language teachers and all interested in language and culture.

The symposium programme includes three plenary lectures, papers and workshops. The invited speakers are: 
Professor emeritus Robert Phillipson (Copenhagen Business School) 
Dr. Miriam Shlesinger (Bar-Ilan University)
Professor Sari Pietikäinen (University of Jyväskylä) 

The main language of the symposium is Finnish, but presentations in other languages are also welcome.

The deadline for abstracts (max. 300 words) and workshop proposals (max. 500 words) is 16 September 2011. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 30 September 2011. 
The deadline for registration is 14 October 2011. 
All proposals for papers, posters and workshops should be sent through an electronic form available on the symposium web pages at http://www.uef.fi/afinla-2011

The participation fee is 80 € (70 € for members of AFinLA, 50 € for students and post-graduate students). The fee includes access to all symposium programme, a symposium folder, the symposium abstracts, lunches and coffees.
