> Summer University of Jyväskylä is the first Finnish Summer University, founded in 1912. Today programmes are arranged throughout the year. The main programmes are: preparatory courses for highschool students, language courses (e.g. Finnish for Foreigners), vocational (updating) continuing education, optional courses (hobbies etc.), Open University courses (jointly with 7-9 universities) and University of the Third Age programmes (arranged jointly with University of Jyväskylä and the City of Jyväskylä). In addition we arrange various cultural and regional seminars.
>
> The main principle is to take care of people's lifelong learning by giving them possibilities for human growth and renewal of one's knowledge, skills and perspectives through one's life. Every year we have about 5000 students. Our students don't have to fulfil any special requirements. The courses are open to all, irrespective of the students' age and previous education. The younger students are 15 years old, the oldest are over 90 years old.
