The Võro Institute and Graduate School of Linguistics, Philosophy and Semiotics of the University of Tartu invite you to participate in the international conference “Finnic languages on the map”.
We are looking for presentations which deal with Finnic languages used in maps: language or dialect maps, the spread of vocabulary and isoglosses, dialectometric methods, new opportunities for the visualization of language corpuses and linking databases with maps. Secondly, we welcome presentations which focus on Finnic toponyms on old maps, new sources and new interpretations of known sources. Thirdly, we invite presentations which deal with maps aimed at ethnic representation, and those analyzing the manipulation of maps and maps symbolizing power and nationalism. One of the objectives of the conference is to prepare the compilation of the Atlas of Finnic Toponyms. In connection with this aim, we are also looking for presentations which introduce different toponymic data bases of Finnic countries and regions.
The working languages of the conference are the Finnic languages and English. No translation will be provided.
