Call for applications
Summer School of the Mari Language and Culture
(Yoshkar-Ola, 30 June – 20 July 2014)
Mari State University is happy to announce annual Summer School of Mari
Language and Culture organized in Yoshkar-Ola – the capital of the Mari El
Re-public. In 2014 for the first time the Summer School of the Mari
Language and Culture will run for two weeks in Yoshkar-Ola, the Mari El
Republic, and for one week in the Mari village, the Republic of
Bashkortostan.
Summer School’s organizers are the Institute of National Culture and
Inter-cultural Communication and the International Office of Mari State
University. The attendees of the Summer School are mainly students,
postgraduate students and professors of European and American
Universities, researchers of the field of the Finno-Ugric and Uralic
Languages, ethnography and anthropology of the Finno-Ugric peoples, as
well as everyone who is interested in the language and traditional culture
of the Mari. This year the attendees have also the opportunity to learn
the traditional culture of the Eastern Mari with full immersion into
language and cul-tural medium.
In the framework of a three-week intensive course the attendees will get
the opportunity of studying the essentials of the Mari language on basic
and advanced levels and also share everyday culture of the Mari during the
excursion program. Accommodation in the hostel, two-times catering
(breakfast and dinner) in the University canteen during two weeks and
three-times catering during one week in the Bashkortostan Republic,
together with entertainment and cultural program are provided. As the
course is completed the attendees get the certificate.
To enroll in the Summer School foreign citizens, the Russian Federation
res-idents and the CIS individuals apply for to the International Office
by e-mail: in-ter_office at marsu.ru

The deadline for application: 16 May 2014.
The cost of attendance in the Summer School for foreign citizens is 800$.
This charge includes the cost of training, accommodation and transport in
the framework of transfer service and excursion programs; for the Russian
Federation and CIS citizens the cost excludes expenses on invitation
arrangement for the Rus-sian Visa and postal services.
The registration fee for foreign citizens is 100$.The registration fee is
paid through the wire transfer, for foreign citizens – on the foreign
currency account, for citizens of the Russian Federation – on the Ruble
account of the University. The full name of a payer and payment
destination (REGISTRATION FEE – SUMMER SCHOOL OF MARI LANGUAGE) are to be
indicated.
The dates for paying a registration fee: for citizens of the non-CIS
countries – till 6 June 2014; for the Russian Federation and CIS citizens
– till 15 June 2014.
The major part of the cost of Summer School attendance (for foreign
citizens – 700$ in Rubles at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the
Russian Federa-tion which is prevailing at the date of payment) paid on
arrival by cash to the Uni-versity Payment Office after the enrollment
contract is signed. If the registration fee is technically difficult or
impossible to be paid by wire transfer, full payment for Summer School
attendance is acceptable on arrival.
