Dear URA-LIST community,

as reported on the Uralistica website (http://news.uralistica.com/?p=11147 ), Tamara Ivanovna Teplyashina, the doyenne of Udmurt linguistics, passed away on the 24th of December 2014. In March, she would have celebrated her 91st birthday.

Tamara Teplyashina was a versatile linguist who during her long career worked with different aspects of Permic linguistics (also together with her husband, the renowned Komi linguist V. I. Lytkin). She investigated various Udmurt dialects, publishing a pioneer work on the Besermyan variety, participated in the preparation of the massive Russian-Udmurt dictionary (1956) and edited a collection of early Udmurt texts from the 18th century.

With respectful condolences
JL
