Dear colleagues,

please pay attention to the following workshop concerning contacts ans
shared structural properties of the languages of the Volga-Kama region.

IVth workshop on languages of the Volga-Kama Sprachbund

Deadline for application: 1 August 2018
Notification of acceptance: 1 September 2018
Workshop: 16—18 November 2018

The existence of strong areal connections between Finno-Ugric and Turkic
languages, which are usually brought together under the notion of
Volga-Kama Sprachbund, has been known for a long time. Nevertheless, it
seems that the comparative-areal perspective is still exceptionally
rewarding both for the Finno-Ugric and for the Turkic studies: it turns out
that our languages are far more similar, than it seems at first. We expect
that the collaboration of specialists of Volga-Kama languages will help to
bring forward subtle differences and similarities, which will be valuable
for descriptive and theoretical research in the domain of each particular
language.
This is another working meeting from this series (previous meetings were
held in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016). We invite abstracts on Mordvin,
Mari, Udmurt, Komi, Chuvash, Tatar, and Bashkir. Both descriptive
typological and more theoretically-oriented research is accepted.
Invited Speakers: Éva Dékány, Marcel den Dikken (Research Institute for
Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences)
