We have some very good news for the Finno-Ugric world. Alkukoti is
going to appear again and I am its editor-in-chief! At the spring
meeting of the Friends of Finno-Ugric Peoples (Sukukansojen ystävät
ry), a final decision was made on the matter. Alkukoti’s publishing
rights have been transferred from Student Union of the University of
Helsinki (HYY) to the Friends of Finno-Ugric Peoples, in connection
with, of course, e.g. to the fact that the Union doesn't even have a
committee of Finno-Ugric nations anymore. Alkukoti is the only popular
magazine in Finnish focusing on all Finno-Ugric peoples, along with
the M. A. Castren society's members newsletter. Despite the fact that
it was actually done by students, it received a lot of attention among
finnougrists and attracted new readers interested in Finno-Ugric
peoples and cultures. Alkukoti was published between 2000 and 2016,
when a total of 14 issues were published. Now, after the break, the
plan is to make Alkukoti even better and better known. According to
the decision of the spring meeting, I have promised to act as
editor-in-chief of Alkukoti again, after an 18-year break! The purpose
is to publish a high-level magazine,
more international, more current and more profound magazine, which
concentrates on little known and important aspects of Finno-Ugric
peoples. Naturally, politics is one of the priorities. There will be
chosen an international editorial board.Do you have any ideas about
the magazine? Do you want to write yourself, share interesting topics
and research results from others?
What do you want to know? What topic would be important for a wider audience?

Esa-Jussi Salminen, editor-in-chief of Alkukoti
