It is aimed at Big Science, where they will spend millions getting ice cores and other stuff that mainly confirms things we already know (yeah, it's getting warmer and there's more pollutants in the atmosphere). Linguists don't need icebreakers and big equipment, but they can always use more funding opportunities.

Even if you don't work in the north, please fill out the survey linked below to plug financial support for research on endangered languages in the arctic . It may amount to nothing, or it may be a great help to colleagues working in the north. It just takes 5 minutes. Well, it took me 10, but that is because I have Siberian bandwidth.

http://www8.nationalacademies.org/cp/projectview.aspx?key=49516

Full text of the email with an explanation is below.

Thanks,
Alex

Begin forwarded message:

From: Cherylyn Mazo <Cherylyn.Mazo@unbc.ca>

Subject: [IASSA.Net] RE: US NRC Study on Emerging Arctic Research Questions - questionnaire and request for input

Date: 31 July, 2013 6:33:50 AM GMT+12:00

To: Undisclosed recipients:;

________________________________

From: Brown, Lauren M.
