<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 16px/normal 'Trebuchet MS'; color: rgb(53, 95, 145); "><i>Call for presentations</i></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 16px/normal 'Trebuchet MS'; color: rgb(53, 95, 145); "><b>TIME AND TENSE IN FINNIC LANGUAGES</b></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 16px/normal 'Trebuchet MS'; color: rgb(53, 95, 145); ">Aig õdagumeresoomõ kiilin Aeg läänemeresoome keeltes Aika itämerensuomalaisissa kielissä</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 16px/normal 'Trebuchet MS'; color: rgb(53, 95, 145); ">October 23–25, 2014 in Taevaskoja, Estonia</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">The Võro Institute invites you to participate in the international conference “<span style="font: 12.0px Times">Time and tense in Finnic languages” </span>in Taevaskoja.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">We are looking for presentations which deal with time and tense in different contexts: tense as a grammatical category, time in the perception of life and world; the factor of time in language documentation, etc.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">We welcome presentations which focus on the topics of linguistics such as tense in Finnic languages, time-expressions in vocabulary, phrases and phraseological units/ idiomatic expressions. An important research question is the development of semantics of time-expressions. Where do words expressing time relations come from? Do they tend to grammaticalize? What are the grammaticalization paths of those words in Finnic languages?</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">Another important issue is the question of time in documenting linguistic phenomena. What period of time is the canonical concept about one or another Finnic language dated to? Compared to the traditional understanding, what direction have endangered or less endangered Finnic languages taken by today? We also invite presentations that deal with the change in Finnic toponyms, the transformation of whole toponymic system during the different periods and in different circumstances.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">At a broader level, the presentations in the conference could attempt to answer what kind of relations Finnic people have with time. Do they have it? If they have it, then how much do they have it?</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; "><span style="font: 12.0px Times">The working languages </span>of the conference are the Finnic languages and English. No translation will be provided.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 14px/normal 'Trebuchet MS'; color: rgb(53, 95, 145); "><i>Registration, fees and other relevant information</i></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">To participate, please complete the <span style="font: 12.0px Times">registration form </span>on the webpage <span style="color: #4068b7"><a href="http://www.wi.ee/index.php/konverents">http://www.wi.ee/index.php/konverents</a> </span>by September 15, 2014. To participate with a presentation please include an abstract (max. 200 words) in one of the working languages along with the registration.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; ">The length of presentations is 20 minutes (+10 minutes for the discussion). We also welcome poster presentations. The revised and enlarged versions of papers will be peer-reviewed and published in the collection of articles Publications of the Võru Institute in 2015.</div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Times New Roman'; "><span style="font: 12.0px Times">The fee </span>is 60 euros. Thanks to grants received, this <span style="font: 12.0px Times">includes conference materials, accommodation </span>(two nights) and meals from
