and knowledge in different speech communities. Schooling and literacy are changing the world at global scale, while linguistic and cultural diversity can be encouraged by theoretical linguistics, among others. In addition to good analytical linguistic skills,
knowledge of socio-linguistic settings and local cultures are required in the production of teaching materials.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><o:p class=""></o:p></span></div>

what kind of teaching materials should be created in order to languages to survive? What is especially needed for their production in indigenous and minority contexts?<o:p class=""></o:p></span></div>

Sidney Facundes, Arawakan linguist from the Universidade Federal de Pará, Brazil.
