the academic world. This is always accompanied by a certain
insecurity of what will remain as usual and will have to be

We are happy to tell you that the Workshop Siberian Life: Language
and Culture in the great North will take place as planned in
Spring 2021.<br>

<br>
[Workshop]<b> Siberian life: language and culture in the great
North</b><br>
<br>
In recent decades a number of interrelated subdisciplines of
linguistics such as anthropological linguistics, ethnosyntax, or
cultural linguistics have arisen which are still in the stage of
defining themselves. The aim of the workshop is to bring together
scholars to explore the potential of these disciplines.<br>
<br>
The Institute for Finno-Ugric/Uralic studies at the University of
Hamburg invites scholars from all fields of linguistics,
anthropology and ethnology to take part in a workshop on the
ethnolinguistics of the indigenous languages and peoples of
Northern Siberia. Any topics from the above mentioned fields are
welcome for presentation. Papers investigating cultural effects on
grammar are especially appreciated.<br>
<br>
The workshop will take place from 4th – 5th of February 2021 at
the University of Hamburg (Universität Hamburg) in Hamburg,
Germany.<br>
<br>
<b>Abstract</b><br>
<br>
We invite abstracts for a 20-minute presentation (plus 10 minute
discussion). Abstracts should not exceed 250 words, excluding
references and language examples. The page should be headed only
by the title of the paper and not contain any self-identification.<br>
<br>
<b>Submission</b><br>
<br>
Please submit abstracts electronically as an e-mail attachment to
the workshop’s email address <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:siberian-life21.slm@uni-hamburg.de">siberian-life21.slm@uni-hamburg.de</a>.
We kindly ask you to use .docx or .rtf formats in addition to pdf.
Please also include the author’s name, affiliation and title of
the paper in the body of the accompanying email.<br>

The deadline for submitting abstracts is <b>July 15, 2020</b><br>
<br>
All proposals will be reviewed anonymously.<br>
<br>
<b>Language</b><br>
<br>
The official languages of the workshop are English, German and
Russian. It is possible, however to present papers in another
language. If you choose not to present in English, we kindly ask
you to prepare your slides or handouts in English.<br>
<br>
