The Role

The Department of International Studies is seeking a suitably qualified academic who has a strong research and teaching record in the area of French and Francophone Studies. The appointee will contribute to a discipline with a strong collaborative culture. The appointee will lecture and coordinate a number of units in both French language and culture of all levels and will be required to contribute to other interdisciplinary undergraduate and/or postgraduate units offered in the Department.

In addition, the appointee will actively seek funding for, and make a contribution to, the research activities of the Department of International Studies (including interdisciplinary research as appropriate) and undertake administrative duties as directed including contributing to leadership and administrative roles in the Discipline.

Available opportunities are for a Lecturer or a Senior Lecturer, depending on experience and track record.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria for an appointment at Lecturer level (Level B):

  *   - Native speaker competency of French and English;
  *   - PhD in a relevant field of French and Francophone Studies;
  *   - Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship with a focus on contemporary French studies in a global context, which should be evidenced by publications and/or success in attracting research funding,
  *   - Demonstrated capacity to build collaborative research partnerships at national and/or international level;
  *   - Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree research students, including as primary supervisor;
  *   - Demonstrated success in teaching and convening units in French language studies at undergraduate and postgraduate level including the ability to independently develop research-integrated and innovative approaches to teaching and learning;
  *   - Experience with, or strong interest in, online delivery and associated learning technologies for both blended and distance learning;
  *   - Demonstrated successful implementation of French as a Foreign Language teaching methodology at the tertiary level;
  *   - Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collegial environment that fosters and supports the work of others;
  *   - Record of contributing, or capacity to actively contribute to Department or Faculty committees or strategic projects, including in a leadership role.

Desirable:

  *   - Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship in one of the following areas: French contemporary literature, film, theatre and culture; French culture and society, including in European and/or international contexts;
  *   - Experience with aligning teaching and learning outcomes with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Essential Criteria for an appointment at Senior Lecturer level (Level C):

  *   -Native speaker competency of French and English;
  *   -PhD in the field of French and Francophone Studies;
  *   -Demonstrated experience in the field of contemporary French studies in a global context, which will complement the Department's shared research area in International Studies.;
  *   -Established international research profile in the chosen field of study, as evidenced by the demonstrated production of quality impactful research, including high-quality refereed publications, and sustained growth in citations;
  *   -Demonstrated capacity to build collaborative research partnerships at national and international level, including emerging record of visiting fellowships and/or invited presentations, active organisation of national and international conferences, and serving as a co- or chief investigator on successful competitive internal or external grant applications;
  *   -Demonstrated successful supervision as primary supervisor of completed higher degree research projects;
  *   -Demonstrated leadership role in program design, administration and delivery in French language studies at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including the ability to independently develop research-integrated and innovative approaches to teaching and learning;
  *   -Experience with, or strong interest in, online delivery and associated learning technologies for both blended and distance learning;
  *   -Demonstrated successful implementation of French as a Foreign Language teaching methodology at the tertiary level;
  *   -Demonstrated ability to contribute in a leadership role to a collegial environment that fosters and supports the work of others;
  *   -Record of contributing, or capacity to actively contribute to Department or Faculty committees or strategic projects, including in a leadership role.

Desirable:

  *   -Demonstrated international research profile in one of the following areas: French contemporary literature, film, theatre and culture; French culture and society, including in European and international contexts;
  *   -Experience with developing and designing programs, which align teaching and learning outcomes with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Salary Package: Level B from $99,879 to $118,174 p.a. or Level C from $121,953 to $140,256 p.a. plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
