[ACLA-CAAL] ACLA Conference/Congrès 2020 : Mise à jour/Update

Chères/chers membres et collègues,

Après mûre réflexion, le Bureau de direction de l'ACLA/CAAL a décidé à l'unanimité de ne pas participer au congrès virtuel de la Fédération des sciences humaines et d'annuler la conférence de l'ACLA/CAAL pour les raisons suivantes :


  *   Les informations fournies par la Fédération des sciences humaines au sujet du congrès virtuel ne nous ont pas convaincus que nous aurons suffisamment de temps, de fonds et de capacités à vous offrir une conférence en ligne de qualité.



  *   Vos réponses au sondage indiquaient clairement que vous n'étiez pas enthousiastes à l'idée de participer à un congrès virtuel.



  *   En ces temps incertains, nous essayons toutes et tous de faire face à de nouvelles exigences professionnelles et familiales et il nous semblait malvenu d'ajouter une autre source de stress en vous demandant de présenter vos travaux en ligne.

Ce fut une décision difficile à prendre, car nous nous faisions une joie de vous retrouver à London pour célébrer les 50 ans de l'association. Toutefois, ce n'est que partie remise, et nous avons hâte de vous revoir en santé, l'année prochaine à Edmonton.
Nous tenons à remercier chaleureusement toutes les personnes qui au cours des derniers mois ont contribué à l'organisation de la conférence. Nous pensons particulièrement à la coordinatrice locale Shelley Taylor et à son étudiante Yasmeen Hakooz, ainsi qu'aux évaluatrices et évaluateurs des propositions.
Si vous vous êtes déjà inscrit.e au Congrès, la Fédération nous a assuré qu'elle vous remboursera vos frais d'inscription dès que possible. Comme exigé par notre règlement, nous aurons une assemblée générale annuelle, qui se tiendra en ligne le 2 juin 2020. Nous vous enverrons plus d'informations à ce sujet dans les prochaines semaines.

Dear Members

After careful consideration, ACLA/CAAL's Executive Council unanimously decided not to attend the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences virtual conference and cancel the ACLA/CAAL conference for the following reasons:


  *   The information provided by the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences about the virtual congress did not convince us that we will have enough time, funds and capacity to offer you a quality online conference.
  *   Your survey responses made it clear that you were not enthusiastic about attending a virtual convention.
  *   In these uncertain times, we are all trying to cope with new professional and family demands, and it seemed inappropriate for us to add another source of stress by asking you to present your work online.

It was a difficult decision to make, as we were looking forward to meeting you in London to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the association. However, we look forward to seeing you healthy next year in Edmonton.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the people who have contributed to the organization of the conference over the past few months. We are thinking specifically of our local coordinator Shelley Taylor and her student Yasmeen Hakooz, as well as the evaluators of the proposals.

If you have already registered for Congress, the Federation has assured us that it will reimburse you for your registration fees as soon as possible. As required by our regulations, we will have an annual general meeting, to be held online on June 2, 2020. We'll be sending you more information about this in the coming weeks.
