As WOTY-C-M debates take place, as I cannot be at the ADS meeting, I would like to
mention that it might be profitable to consider the possibility of whole categories of
words being considered as a new voting opportunity. It might be phrased: What change
in the last, say, century has contributed the largest batch of new words and phrases
to the American language? Baseball? The automobile? Computers?
