_The Barnhart New Words Concordance_ cites evidence for these terms
(_spin_, from 1984) as early as Vol. 5.1 (1986) of _The Barnhart
Dictionary Companion_--quarterly journal.  Also in V.1 were _spin control_
and _put a (positive, negative, etc) spin on (something)_.  The term _spin
doctor_ was first recorded by "Among the New Words" in _American Speech_
(Vol. 63.3, Fall 1988).
