For what it's worth, I grew up in the 1930's and 40's in Southern Ontario
never being quite sure whether a small watercourse was a  "crick " or a
"creek,"  having both English and Canadian grandparents, and a lot of
Canadian great-aunts and uncles. And I've since learned of the expression
"God willin' an' the creek/crick don't rise " - which certainly does not, in
Canada, refer to any First Nation!
