"the WB"

>From references I've seen in print lately, the major TV networks seem to include
ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and "the WB". The article is a surprise to me; I don't
recall seeing it before, say, a month ago, although that may just reflect my
reading habits. Why with "WB", and why just with "WB"? Is it, think you, to
prevent confusion with the related movie studio that has been plain "WB" for
many years?
