Church key

In late 1950s, northern Delaware (Christiana), two relatives were
talking about who had the church key.  I asked about the meaning of
church key, beyond the bottle/can opener definition, and was told that
if you used it (the church key) enough, you'd end up in church (because
of too much drinking).
