pop/soda/coke

In the Twin Cities currently, it's _usually_ "pop" but sometimes
"soda".

A store in the Mercado Central (on Lake Street in Minneapolis) sells
Mexican sodas and canned pop.

It seems to me that the stuff is soda if it's 1) exotic, 2) upscale,
3) organic, or 4) sold in a chain headquartered in a place where
"soda" is the ordinary usage.  However, I am not a trained observer
and have not made a study of this.
