Pronouncing letters

Aw, c'mon you guys - mine was a glib (but funny, I thought)
statement.  Should I have instead written something like, Well,in my
humble opinion, a professional speaker of English should be able to
pronounce all phonemic sounds in at least one of the more-or-less
standardized allomorphs?

It just happens that Tom Brokaw's particular brand of pronunciation
is particularly difficult for me to listen to, and so I try to avoid
him.
