"To ___ slap"

<The Cassell entries
would be consistent with "X-slap" = "slap as delivered by an X"; then would
"dope-slapped" = "slapped as if by a dope"? Or is the usage sometimes
"X-slap" = "slap as one would slap an X"?>

When I heard the callers use the expressions, I understood "bitch-slap" to
be a slap by a bitch and "dope-slap" to be a slap given to a dope precisely
because he had said or done something dopey (the sort of thing Moe used to
do to Larry and Curly).
