Call For Papers
Place Name Study
Boise, ID
September 4-8, 2001

The American  Name Society, through its interest group commonly referred to
as PLANSUS, invites papers on any aspect of place name study at a conjoint
meeting with the Council of Geographic Name Authorities (COGNA) and the
U.S. Board on Geographic Names.

Papers may be from any field--e.g., anthropology, linguistics, history,
geography--focus on any region, or on special topics such as data
collection or the interaction of place names with other types of naming.

Send short abstracts (150 words) to Grant W. Smith gsmith at ewu.edu by March
5, 2001.  Papers will be vetted by a panel of experts, and you will be
notified by March 25.
