attributed to Wavy Gravy, who should know. (Actually the version I've
heard cited is "If you remember the sixties, you weren't there.")
Remember our various moments a while back, perhaps prompted by the "senior
moment" entry from last year's WOTY list? Just heard a new one this
morning. Jonathan Alter of Newsweek was doing some political commentary on
the syndicated Imus in the Morning radio show and was predicting that as
attention turns more to Sen. McCain after his strong win in New Hampshire,
there will be potential problems for him, given his propensity to speak out
on a variety of issues. Alter began to describe the press flap over
McCain's problems with the abortion issue a couple of weeks ago and called
it "a Welcome-to-the-NFL moment". (The allusion is to the rude awakening
that college football stars receive upon entering training camp as rookies
in the National Football League (NFL).)
