From LAS VEGAS: PLAYTOWN U.S.A. (1955) by Katharine Best and Katharine Hillyer, pg. 58:

The opening of the plush resort hotel, the New Frontier, on April 5, 1955, was, even for _premiere_-pampered Las Vegans (Don't these guys eat meat?--ed.), an event of interest.
     (Continued on page 59--ed.)
Chandeliers in the shape of men from outer space, flying saucers and spinning planets hung from raspberry _glace_ and daphne pink ceilings. Walls of diadem violet and Ruby Lake magenta displayed three-dimensional amethyst murals depicting the twelve signs of the zodiac. The cocktail lounge was named Cloud 9, the dining room was called Planet, and the theater-restaurant was known as Venus.

I ordered two newspapers the Library of Congress said it had--the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun. The Review-Journal is just one volume, and that's in storage. The Sun is not on the shelf.
