New thread--a curious thing

Barbara Need and Arnold's anonymous informant both correct my association
of "Yipes -- stripes!" from toothpaste to gum: from the prevention to the
cause. Teeth decay, even if language doesn't [cross-thread ref.], and so
does my memory.

I went to the web site. My word! I didn't realize that that gum was still
around.

Cross-thread ref. #2 (Ron on "try {and|to}"): Speaking of "my word!", my
use of interjections has definitely been changing as I grow older and more
putatively respectable, and feel more of a need to restrain somewhat my
tendency to turn the air blue.
