The first people I heard talking about "waiting on line" were two sisters of
my acquaintance who had grown up in --- Pennsylvania!  I assumed it was a
Pennsylvanian local oddity.  But "waiting on line" has become more
widespread; you hear it out here in Rain City/Seattle with some frequency.
