"Rec Rage"

Probably not new, but if it is it should be added to all the "---- rage"
coinages of recent years. (If I'm recalling correctly, "----- rage" got some
1998 WOTY votes under the heading "most likely to succeed" or something like
that.)

A local free newspaper (May 2000 issue) reports on a community roundtable
discussion of:

"`Rec Rage,' typically characterized by over-the-top behavior by parents, or
others, at kids [sic] sports contests, ranging from verbal abuse toward
referees to physical violence against coaches."

Rec must short for Recreation, of course, though "wreck" is a droll overtone.
