Regarding shalom chaver: I just spoke with a fellow student who is fluent in
Hebrew and a regular visitor to Israel. She confirms that the phrase has
caught on: bumperstickers, t-shirts, that sort of thing. Very much a
catch-phrase and a reminder of the horrible assassination of Rabin.

Perhaps the new "Ich bin ein berliner?"
