Memphis has a "midtown." I guess it's about mid way between the river (downtown) and what was probably the eastern edge of the city when the term was first used. I don't know how long ago that was, but I'm guessing a hundred years or more. --Natalie Maynor (maynor at ra.msstate.edu)
