Muddle (Tongues and Sounds)

       "It was in August that Agnes Johnson, of West Eighty-seventh Street,
       asked us to find a recipe called a "muddle" made with cod tongues
       and sounds..."



I'm familiar with animals' "lights" as internal organs: can someone
explain what "sounds" are ?
