some additions to the southern/south midlands/aave list of
forestressed nouns: DEtroit, UMbrella, JUly, CIgar, HOtel/MOtel.

(there are a also fair number with alternative stressings, both
presumably "general american", listed in u.s. dictionaries: address,
moustache, romance, chauffeur [all nouns].)

a grad student here points out that fasold & wolfram (1970) list
POlice, HOtel, and JUly as representative shifted words in aave
("Negro dialect" back then), and that others have cited this same
list, somewhat extended, since then.
